Our Story

History of the Farm

Originally known as the “Cofer Homestead”, our farm is rich in heritage. The property was acquired from the State of Tennessee by the Cofer family in 1841. The original homestead was in the same area as our home today, having been expanded and modernized many times over the years.

The barn we use for hay storage we believe was built around 1901 as well as the interior structure of our farmhouse. The spring that feeds our well we use for the livestock today was also used by those early homesteaders as their main water source. Many of the beams used to support our home and barn were felled here on the property and the bed rock under the home and barn is a foundation decades old. Children were born and raised here, the land was faithfully farmed for generations.. if only the walls could talk!

We are blessed to have met members of the Cofer family who have shared such heart warming stories, photos, and artifacts with us; as well as many other families who have lived here throughout the years. We are proud to join in the legacy of this place that we have grown to treasure and love, and only hope we can keep the history rich and strong so we too can pass it on one day.

Our Family’s Story

The desire for wide open spaces and a simpler life was always an under current for us. After months of looking, we stumbled on this little slice of heaven. There were many weeks of offers and contracts and praying and hoping, and then in May of 2015, Whisper Creek Farm was ours.

This land and home has been a labor of love. We have worked tirelessly to improve the land as sustainably as possible, as well as modernizing and making the old farmhouse our own. We have fallen in love with this farm. The views, the farm community, country life, even this old quirky house with so much history has captured us. Living here has grown us and shaped us in ways we could never imagine. It has brought our family closer by working together and choosing to slow down in our daily life. Our knowledge of nature - gardening and animals - has become a passion we love learning more and more about. Because of a small wish, a small nudging, and a leap of faith we are forever changed. Home truly is the nicest word there is.
